This video shows 5 great applications that students can use on the iPod Touch. My favorite one is ihomework. Students can use this as an organizational tool throughout the school year. So much for the assignment notebook! The calendar, which comes with this iPod touch is also very useful for student organization. The other three apps that were focused on included one for art, phy ed and math. They were all very easy to use and made sense for continuous use.
Audiobooks: Learn Out Loud Audiobooks
I found several interesting biology audiobooks that I will use when I teach plants and animals next year. I listened to the audiobook titled By Pond and River. This audiobook has several chapters. The first chapter focuses on the life cycle of a frog. The second chapter discusses the lifecycle of a dragonfly. There were 12 chapters total. Each chapter is about 3-5 minutes in length. I will probably use one chapter at a time and the chapters do not necessarily have to be used in any order and not all would be needed. Each chapter stands alone nicely.
iTunesU: Fraction Math Lesson Student Interactive with Podcasts
I truly appreciated this lesson becuase it shows how a teacher used podcasting effectively in his math classroom. Every student worked through a math problem, created a scripted step-by-step report, and read it aloud for a podcast. As students listened to themselves they were finding errors and areas for improvement. Behind the scenes the teacher created a step-by-step visual to match each student podcast. This is definately something I would like to try.
Student podcast: A student in my class created this podcast 'commercial' to promote his book series...'The Bob Heflin Series."
Teacher podcast: I created a few book talks to use for my online book club. Students listened to a variety of book talks to help them choose their top three choices. The following day each student gave me a list of their top 3 choices. Book groups were created from there.

I used episode #54 with my students. The topic of the podcast was volcanoes. Two school aged girls who lived in San Fransisco walked students through their own real experiences with volcanoes and locations that displayed evidence of volcanic activity. This podcast was so much more meaningful for my students than reading about volcanoes in a text.
